The Beauty of Rust

The Beauty of Rusta macro photography series revealing the stunning contrast between nature and contemporary decay

‘The Beauty of Rust’, captured by macro photographer, Alberto Ghizzi Panizza, reveals the beautiful contrast between the lush Swedish forest and rusting vehicles in “Bilkyrkogården Kyrkö Mosse” – a car “cemetery” near Ryd, Linköping, Sweden.

Commenting on his experience, Alberto Ghizzi Panizza said, “In macro photography you are always looking for interesting colours and textures, so for me, Bilkyrkogården Kyrkö Mosse was a wonderland. The Micro-NIKKOR lenses allowed me to capture, in crisp detail, the 60-year battle between the abandoned cars and Mother Nature trying to reclaim her forest once again. The four lenses I used for this shoot were critical to enable me to get closer to the action and reveal the ‘beauty of rust’ in a way never seen before.”

Alberto shot the image series using the Nikon D500, Nikon D810 and the following Nikon Micro-NIKKOR lenses:

AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G : Built to capture fine detail, this wonderfully easy-to-handle, compact lens delivers stunning close-ups as well as great general shots and portraits. The aperture lets you single out subjects for images with a pleasantly blurred background and contributes towards sharp shots in low-light.

AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/3.5G ED VR : Compact and lightweight DX format Macro lens with high-quality optics. The 1:1 reproduction ratio of this lens enables life-size close-ups of extremely fine textures and details.

AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED: This lens incorporates Nikon’s second-generation vibration reduction system (VR II) that allows flexible hand-held shooting. It’s also the perfect companion for shooting from a distance if needed e.g. capturing wildlife.

AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED: This lens is both compact and versatile, allowing the user to shoot landscape as well as macro photography. Nikon's most compact Micro lens for close-up and general photography. It also has close range correction (CRC) built in, providing high performance at a near distance.
